Window Treatment – An Art Unto Itself
/Design Inspiration: Window Treatment Approaches for Your Style
There’s something about adding finishing touches to a home’s interior that sets it apart from other homes. Often, window treatments are the magical missing piece. They can be elegant, charming, and can even be considered theatrical. They not only help provide a frame to your windows but also help draw attention to them highlighting architectural details or unusual shapes.
Many people overlook their windows when doing a remodel or room refresh. Often the focus in on larger items like furniture, flooring and wall coverings. Yet, in reality, window treatments help pull an entire room together, elevating the overall feel of the space.
When we work with clients on a window treatment, we help determine what is needed based on what they’ll be using the room for. Do they need light control? Heat control? Privacy? Does the room need some sound and acoustical absorption?
You might want the room to be bright and sunny like a breakfast nook where the window treatments should be light and semi-transparent. Or, maybe you want it darker with more privacy like a family room for watching movies. The window treatments for each room should be based upon the use of that room. If you have a multi-use room, using a layered approach will allow you to adjust the light easily as needed.
“We love how the draperies make the dining room feel so much more elegant. Our mealtimes now feel like we are eating in a fancy restaurant!” – Merrill
In this dining room window treatment, we layered coverings and end panels allowing different levels of lighting control. It transforms a plain window with no privacy into an elegant focal point when dining.
For this upstairs reading room, we chose thicker fabrics and darker tones to create comfortable “quietness” – perfect for settling down with a good book.
